"Big Red Monster" for "The Yin Yang Master" movie on Netflix

I also posted some of my art director notes to the Look Dev team (Yannick Vincent and Uday Vel) working with Walt Jones and Jon Meier. It took almost 2 years of work back and forth with Director Weiran Li giving us feedback at Tau Films. I still have loads of other versions to post including my favorite fully scarred & dirty version.
The movie is out on Netflix and its super fun to watch I highly recommend it. I’m super stoked about it! I had the privilege to work on this movie with Tau Films for a solid 2 years from late 2017 to late 2019 and travel to China as the lead designer and art director. First time visiting Beijing and being super involved having a say in the making of a movie working directly with Director Weiran Li along with John Hughes, Walt Jones, Jon Meier, Justin Jones and 20 artists in China. Later on I brought onboard my homies @belderes Luke Belderes, who I often work with & @damalto Daniel Carrasco to help me with the enormous amount of design work there was to do in the movie and they absolutely killed it. Me and Daniel designed most of the creatures of the movie which I’m so stoked about. I was in charge of all the creatures & I had to Art direct them for years after the concepts were director approved and moved on to Look Dev. Furthermore I had a hand in just about every aspect of the film from the monsters, to magic the monster world & coming up with ideas for just about everything. It’s not a life changing movie but a fun popcorn fantasy ride with a lot of magical creatures and fun characters. It’s definitely a mile stone for me I’m very proud of the work we all did and I can’t wait to see it tomorrow.
Next Tuesday I’ll post a finished version of the Red Monster. Big red went through a lot of subtle changes but I am super happy my original 3D concept was used and worked on as the final asset you see on screen. Thanks for stopping by, and if you’ve read this far thanks for reading my rant. Cheers!🍻
